How the Scam Works

  1. Victim posts an item for sale.

  2. Scammer contacts the seller pretending to be a buyer.

  3. Scammer agrees to pay immediately.

  4. They send a QR code or payment request.

  5. Seller unknowingly transfers money instead of receiving it.


Fake Army Officer Scam

A common variation involves scammers pretending to be Indian Army officers.

They claim they are posted in another city and cannot meet personally.

This tactic builds trust.

• Buyer agrees instantly without negotiation
• Buyer sends QR code for payment
• Buyer refuses face-to-face meeting
• Buyer pressures you to complete transaction quickly
